How the leaderboard works

// the monthly best-share contest, the math behind it, and how we keep it from being won by the same miner every month ยท back to the leaderboard โ†’

Best-share difficulty is a lottery. Every share your Bitaxe submits is a scratch ticket, and once in a while one comes back far bigger than your hashrate has any right to produce. That's what the leaderboard celebrates. But a one-time lucky share shouldn't win the prize forever โ€” so the monthly contest is built around fresh shares found this month, not your all-time record. Here's exactly how it works.

How your monthly score is calculated

  1. Signup sets a private baseline. The first time your desktop app reports to the leaderboard, we record your current best share as a silent starting line. It does not go on the board. Your all-time lifetime best never counts โ€” only what you find after you join.
  2. We only count new bests. Roughly every five minutes your app reports your best share. When that figure climbs higher than anything we've seen from you this month, your board number updates. If it's flat โ€” the same old share, re-reported because the device hasn't rebooted โ€” nothing happens. You don't get credit for a share you found before this month.
  3. Everyone resets on the 1st. At midnight UTC on the 1st of each month, every user's monthly number drops to zero. The new month is a clean race โ€” your number becomes whatever your best new share is from that point forward.
  4. The board and the prize use the same number. What you see ranked under this month is exactly what the end-of-month prize draw uses. No hidden math.

How winners are picked

The all-time board is still there

Resetting the monthly contest doesn't erase anybody's achievement. The all-time best card keeps the biggest career shares on permanent display โ€” if you've hit a genuinely massive diff, that record stays up for everyone to see. It's bragging rights. The monthly prize just comes from a separate, resettable board so newcomers always have a live shot.

One honest limitation

Bitaxe firmware reports your best share since the device last rebooted โ€” not every individual share. So we can only register a new score when you beat your own running best. In practice the monthly board reflects "the biggest new personal-best share you found this month," which is exactly the contest we want โ€” but we'd rather state it plainly than have it surprise anyone. Rebooting your miner resets that running best cleanly if you ever want a fresh start within a month.

How to get on the board

It's free โ€” Pro is not required to enter. Open Bitaxe Baller on your desktop, click the PRO chip in the top-right header, scroll to Public leaderboard, set a display name and email, tick Submit my best shares, and hit Save. Check your inbox for a one-click verification link โ€” required to be eligible for monthly prizes (you still appear on the board without it). Scores show up within about five minutes.

FAQ

How is my monthly leaderboard score calculated?
Your monthly score is the biggest new best-share difficulty your miner finds during the current calendar month, counted from when you signed up. Your all-time high from before you joined never counts. We only credit a share when your reported best climbs higher than anything we've already seen from you, so a big share you found long ago and keep re-reporting does not earn anything new.

When does the leaderboard reset?
Every user's monthly number resets to zero at midnight UTC on the 1st of each month. The new month is a clean race for everyone at the same time, and your number becomes whatever your best new share is from that point forward.

Can the same person win the prize every month?
No. Because the board resets for everyone on the 1st, a single lucky share can only win the month it was found. On top of that, a 3-and-out rule applies: you can win your model up to three months in a row, then you are ineligible for the next 90 days and the prize rolls to the next-highest eligible miner. After the cooldown you are back in.

Who is eligible to win a Bitaxe Baller leaderboard prize?
You need a verified email and at least 24 hours of polling activity. Each Bitaxe model competes separately. First place in each model wins a free month of Pro; places 2 through 5 get a one-time 20% off Pro coupon valid for 60 days. Unverified entries still appear on the board but cannot win.
