Run Bitaxe Baller on Your Umbrel Home Server

If you already run an Umbrel home server, you’ve got the ideal home for Bitaxe Baller: a box that’s on 24/7, sitting on the same LAN as your miners, already running your Bitcoin node and Mempool and Electrs. Bitaxe Baller now installs there in one click through an Umbrel community app store — same dashboard, same tuning engine, just always-on instead of tied to whether your laptop is awake.

Why run it on Umbrel instead of your desktop

The desktop app is great, but it only monitors and logs while it’s running. Close the lid and your history stops, your Discord alerts go quiet, and your CSV logs have a gap. On an Umbrel box, Bitaxe Baller runs continuously:

• Always-on monitoring and logging — your history is continuous, not “whenever the laptop was open.”
• Alerts that actually fire — offline and temperature alerts only help if something’s awake to send them.
• Same LAN as your miners — no networking gymnastics; it scans and reaches your Bitaxes directly.
• It lives with the rest of your stack — one more tile next to Bitcoin Core, Mempool, and Electrs, with data that persists across reinstalls and Umbrel updates.

It’s multi-arch, so it runs on a Raspberry Pi, an M-series Mac Mini, or an x86 mini-PC — whatever your Umbrel happens to be.

How to install it

1. Open the Umbrel App Store and go to Settings → Community App Stores → Add.
2. Paste the community store URL for Bitaxe Baller (it’s linked from the download page and the GitHub repo).
3. Find Bitaxe Baller in your newly added store and click Install.
4. Open the app from your Umbrel dashboard. It comes up on its own tile — add a miner by IP, or hit scan network to auto-find every Bitaxe on your LAN.

That’s the whole thing. Your data persists to the Umbrel app-data directory, so reinstalls and Umbrel updates don’t wipe your history.

A couple of things worth knowing

Community store, not the official one. Bitaxe Baller is distributed through a community app store you add yourself — that’s the normal path for apps outside Umbrel’s curated official catalog. The Docker image is pinned by SHA-256 digest per Umbrel’s supply-chain rules, so you get the exact build we published.

Pro works identically. If you have a Pro license, your Umbrel install gets the same feature set as the Mac and Windows builds — bulk tuning, auto-tune sweeps, 90 days of history, and Discord alerts. Same license key, same five-machine activation pool.

It’s still your data. Like every Bitaxe Baller build, the Umbrel version runs locally and keeps your telemetry on your network. Self-hosting on your own node is about as sovereignty-aligned as miner monitoring gets.
